Rocket Boats Inc. was conceived in 2003 and born in 2004. But the story really began in the 1980s when the legendary Gary Mull unleashed the first Pocket Rocket onto an unsuspecting world. Outrageous sailing performance soon led to prestigious regatta wins and an admiring sailing community. Today, the original Pocket Rockets continue to seduce and baffle the sailing world with their design brilliance, stunning profile and impressive racing record.
In 2003 Dale Brown, Rocket Boats Founder and President, was captivated by the original design and its loyal following. After a weekend of racing at the Penticton, B.C., Yacht Club, home to the largest Pocket Rocket fleet in North America, Dale sensed an opportunity. With a limited number of Pocket Rockets in existence, surely a revived and modified boat, built using state of the art manufacturing processes and 21st century components, would find a receptive and enthusiastic market.
In early 2004, after months of research and long discussion with literally hundreds of sailors, Dale acted on his initial gut feeling and formed Rocket Boats. He was immediately joined by fellow sailor Anthony Dutton as well as Don Martin, best known as an Olympic sailor and coach, designer and builder of the Martin 242 and 243, and most recently as a member of the influential Technical Inspection Committee for the 2007 America’s Cup.
Led by Don Martin, they worked hard to modify and improve the original design and rig to produce the much awaited Rocket 22. A retractable bulb keel and new rudder, a redesigned deck and cockpit, rigging and hardware upgrades are only some of the changes included on the new Rocket 22. These modifications, combined with advanced fiberglass, resin and manufacturing technologies, have created a brand new boat that captures the original magic but with distinct and unique characteristics.
Devoted owners, crew and fans everywhere have all contributed to keeping the original Pocket Rocket alive. Now, Rocket Boats has launched the new Rocket 22 as an invitation to the world to once again experience the thrill and exhilaration of a 22 foot high performance sailboat that will be hard to beat!
