The Rocket 22 was created as a Development One Design Class sailboat in order to promote continuous improvement in racing performance through enhancements and modifications. All boats will be subject to minimum and maximum limits. The rules, however, will be flexible enough to allow for certain changes to the rigging, hardware, sails and other equipment that may be desired by individual owners, but which don’t compromise the boat’s ability to compete fairly within a one design class. Any equipment supplied by the manufacturer, the owner, or any other party, may be altered provided it does not contravene the class rules or any safety or event requirement. The primary intent of the rules is that all boats will be sufficiently equal in order for the competition to remain a true test of crews. The secondary intent is that owners and crew are encouraged to participate in constructive exchange of information to contribute to the overall advancement of the Rocket 22 and the class. Rocket Boats recognizes the importance of maintaining an active and creative fleet and the implications for the long term success and viability of the class.
