Rigging the Rocket 22 is a 2-person job. Care and attention should be paid to a patient and thorough setup of the spars and associated rigging. Take time to assess safety conditions such as power lines or any other overhead obstacles, as well as prevailing weather conditions that may affect your ability to properly ready the boat for mooring or sailing.
To rig your Rocket 22, attach the shrouds and wind vane. All standing rigging should be thoroughly inspected on a regular basis. Check for frayed metal, corrosion and sharp bends. The shrouds should not be fully tightened until the mast is raised. The spinnaker halyard must be cleated off. All other halyards should be knotted to ensure they are not pulled through the mast. Walk the mast aft and clip the base to mast step. Masthead electrical wires need to be inserted through the mast step. The second person, pulling from a suitable location on the dock, is now able to use the spinnaker halyard to raise the mast. Ensure that the wires are not kinked by using a suitable device to guide the wires through the base. Do not use your fingers. You will know when the mast has been securely located as there is a locking pin that will be positioned through the mast step axle.
Once completed, the forestay can be attached and all shrouds and stays can be tightened. Your Rocket 22 is now ready. (Typical rig tuning and inspection should now follow; see section on this for specifics).
